Good morning! Glad to hear from you.

I am actually not related to the Hiatt's that I am aware of but I am attempting to track the history of my family farm which my great grandfather purchased in 1880.

From a land patent report, I know that William Adams bought the farm from government in 1837.
After that I have found that, in 1859, Thomas G. and Lucinda Childers and Samuel and Elizabeth Hutton sold the farm to John M. Caldwell who married the Hutton's daughter in 1853.

Someplace I must have read that Lucinda inherited from William Adams. I have this note from research I started years ago but did not put down where I obtained the info so cannot be certain.

I have found on this forum that William Adams married Elizabeth Hiatt in 1836.

Lucinda was born in 1838 and married Thomas G. Childers in 1856 and the message on forum about wedding said Lucinda's mother was a Hiatt from Garrard, KY and her father was John Hiatt, Jr.

So, it would make sense that Lucinda is William and Elizabeth Adams child. The problem with that is that on Lucinda's death certificate, it says that her father's name was Tatum or Tatom. Does that mean Elizabeth Adams was married prior to being married William and Lucinda kept her father's name? Death certificate does not list Tatum's first name.
While it may be safe to assume Lucinda is William and Elizabeth Adams child and that Lucinda inherited the land, I'd like to find out why Samuel and Elizabeth Hutton owned part of it. I cannot find any information on Elizabeth Hutton so was wondering if Elizabeth Hutton would have also been heir, either William Adam's child or Elizabeth Hiatt Adam's child.

I guess what I am asking is whether or not you have a record of John Hiatt, Jr.'s children and grandchildren or whether or not Elizabeth Hiatt was, in fact, a child of John HIatt, Jr. and married to William Adams and whether or not she had a child named Lucinda and possibly a child named Elizabeth.

This stuff is so confusing! Any light you may shed would be extremely appreciated.

And so many of the SAME names :) I would not be surprised to find that I am related to Hiatt's as well because it seems like all of us in Franklin County, Missouri intermarried also. Where are you from?
I am going to lunch but will respond to the info you just gave me after lunch. I think you found what I needed!!! So excited!

Secondly, first looking, find very common names, do have a Lucinda Adams born abt 1793 in KY that married Wilson Hiatt, Son of John Hiatt, Jr. from Garrard Co., KY and that Lucinda is the daughter of Daniel Adams and Amelia Hiatt, so all would be cousins in the first place, Amelia also being of the line of John Hiatt and Ann Noel.
I also have a lot of Tatum names of that area and dates and some of those offspring on to current times.Do not show a name of Lucinda Tatum though. HOLD A MOMENT, did find Elizabeth Hiatt TATTUM, spelling makes a difference. She was the daughter of Wilson Hiatt and Lucinda Adams. That takes us back to the circle of the same family.

Of the children of Wilson Hiatt and Lucinda Adams, 7 children listed:

Milton, John, Elizabeth, Daniel Mary, Emma and William (have middle names for most of those)
Milton married Rosanna Adams, no parentage given but undoubtedly of the same families and cousins.
Of that, have only one child listed, but had to be others, but Susan Hiatt, daughter, married another cousin, Clayton Hiatt, son of Darius Hiatt and Margaret Adams, another set of cousins, keeping it very close kindship.

John Hiatt married Jane Blair, again, only limited info, listed only one child, again surely had others. This family had moved on to Missouri.

Elizabeth married Mr. Tattum (Tatum) no children listed so your giving of Lucinda opens up that portal that is very useful to myself, thanks. That makes this Lucinda the grand daughter of Wilson Hiatt and L:ucinda Adams and grand daughter of John Hiatt, Jr. and Sarah Stone. WOW, do you have the further generations of family on this Lucinda Tattum (Tatum) Would be a great addition to my records.

Now it is that Lucinda Tattum's mother, Elizabeth married secondly to Samuel Hutton, I have no further records on any of these families but would be sure there are other children involved. So your answer is that Lucinda Tattum Childers was the daughter of Elizabeth Hiatt Tattum Hutton. That was easy wasn't it, ha.

Love these tid bits but it opens so much more for me, if only we could get others to add in their families from those points and bring all histories on these families together.

Thanks, Larry Anderson

I have scanned and am attaching copies of the patent record and the deed where William Adams purchases the 80 acres in Franklin County, Missouri in 1837. I also included Lucinda Childers death certificate so you can see where i get the name "tatum". If the scan does not work, I can fax or mail them to you too.
I do not want to put you through a lot of work but I sincerely appreciate any information you can give me. For some reason I wrote that Lucinda inherited the land so it would even be nice to know if William Adams died prior to 1859 when Caldwell purchased from the Childers and Huttons. Another thing I should mention is that Childers got $200 from Caldwell and Huttons only $50 so don't know if Childers inherited more or inherited it all and sold some of the land to Hutton's as opposed to my thought that Hutton's also inherited.
Thank you very much!

It would be exciting to see a copy of this deed you have too, just in breezing thru the notes so far, not going yet to my files, all the names are very familiar and related. I have a data base of over 393,000 of all my families and cousins and related lines, near about anyone will be related if they had ancestry here from the time of the Rev. back, increasing dramatically with each generation. All the names mentioned are also Quaker, doubling chances of relationships. SO now will go thru the records to see how many names come up. John Hiatt, Jr. of KY on to MO was the name also of my line of grandparents. See what I have.
