" DEATH OF THE VENERABLE STEPHEN
DOLSONAnother of the early pioneers has departed. Mr. Dolson came to Dubuque county in 1840, and made a home as a farmer in that year in Concord township. He was born in Stuben county, New York, in 1792, and hence was in his eighty-fifth year. After a residence of seventeen years only a few miles from Dubuque, he removed to Franklin county in order to secure more land for his sons. He resided there, about five miles from Geneva, until the time of his death, last week. He was the father of twenty children, fifteen of whom are still living. His middle life was passed in Monroe, Illinois, and Perry county, Missouri. In the former county our fellow citizen, Wm. J. Dolson was born.
His grand children and great grand children swell the number of his living descendants to more than thirty. He was a well known and highly respected citizen, and after a long and useful life his memory is preserved in the kind recollections of a large family and hundreds of personal friends, heighbors and aquaintances.He was an old soldier and served in the war of 1812, under Capt. Henshaw, and was an honorable pensioner up to the time of his death."
