Clarence Smith BRYAN

His 18 Mar 1965 obituary in the Oberlin Herald reads:
"Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Federated Church, Oberlin, for Clarence S. Bryan, 83, who died March 13 at the Rawlins County Hospital, Atwood. He had been in failing health for a long time. He was married in 1904 to Lillie May Sumner at Holton, Kan. They observed their 60th wedding anniversary in 1964, and Mrs. Bryan died in December, just three months before he was buried. They lived in Brown County and Jackson County, moving to Decatur County in 1917 and farming southwest of Oberlin until 1946, when they retired and moved to town. Survivors include his seven sons, Gilbert, Glen, Gay, Victor and Wayne of Oberlin; Gerald of Burley, Idaho; Guy of Densmore; their wives; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother Newton of Oberlin; six sisters, Laura Pryor, Hazel Bryan, Alice Murlin of Oberlin; Ella Sauvage of Holton; Lena Harris of McCook; Mahala Reed of Salem, Ore."

Lillie May SUMNER

Her obituary in the 24 Dec 1964 Oberlin Herald reads:
"Lillie May Sumner, daughter of Calvin Nicholas and Josephine Sumner, was born May 20, 1884, at Adrian Kansas, and died at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin on Dec. 16, 1964, at the age of 80 years, six months, and twenty-six days following several months of illness. She was married to Clarence Smith Bryan Sept. 7, 1904, at Holton, and they made their home in Brown County until 1905, then moved to Jackson County where they lived until 1917 when they moved to Decatur County. They made their home on a farm west of Oberlin until 1946 when they retired and moved to Oberlin. To this union seven sons were born: Gilbert, Gerald, Glen, Gay, Guy, Victor, and Wayne. She became a member of the Baptist Church in Holton in 1901 and transferred later to the Oberlin Federated Church. She was a faithful church member as long as her health permitted, and one of her joys was having her family and friends visit in her home. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, and one granddaughter. Surviving are her husband, Clarence; sons, Gilbert, Glen, Gay, Victor and Wayne of Oberlin; Gerald of Burley, Idaho, and Guy of Densmore; their wives; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Sumner of Mayetta; one sister, Alma Blaylock of Topeka; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Federated Church, with the Rev. Chas. Scott officiating. Burial was in the Oberlin cemetery." The remainder of the obituary was a list of all out of town relatives who attended the service.
