Public BB message from: LEWIS GRIFFIN to ALL:
"The Culpepper family setted in Virginia in the 1650s and spread from there
to the Carolinas, Georgia, and thoughout the South. If you have a connection
to this family, whetherdirect or indirect, and would like to know more about
it, I'll be happy to try and help you. After 20 years of research I have
records on most branches of the family.       Lew Griffin, Phoenix AZ

Public Reply to GARY SATTERFIELD from LEWIS GRIFFIN:
Gary, glad to see another Culpepper descendant on the Board.  Your Joseph
Culpepper the Revolutionary War soldier was probably the son of a Joseph
Culpepper who died ca.1820 in Morgan County, GA.  This Joseph was the son of
Joseph Culpepper who died in 1745 in Edgecombe County, NC, and he was the son
of Robert Culpepper, who died in 1743 inNorfolk County, VA.  Lew

e-mail:  Personal Message dated 1/13/1996  From: LEWIS GRIFFIN to Terry McLean
Terry, Joseph Mallory Culpepper was born in GA, probably Wilkes County, but
his father Sampson Culpepper was from Bertie (later Edgecombe) County, NC.
Sampson moved from Edgecombe to Anson in  the 1750's with his mother and
brothers, and then to GA after the Revolution.  I have descendants.  I also
have a little on the ancestry of Margaret Pickens Baskin,  Not my direct line
but would be interested in seeing what you have as I know descendants.  As for
Calhoun, I have a Mary Calhoun who married Joseph Leslie about 1807 in SC,
suppossedly some  relationship to John C. Calhoun but have never researched it.
A daughter of this couple, Sarah Leslie, married Wm. Henry Culpepper in 1831,
Upson Co, GA. If you know anything about Mary Calhoun I'd be  interested to
hear.  I'd also be interested to hear which Davis and Smith lines you are
working on in SC, as  I have those surnames there as well and may have
collected something on one of your lines in the course  of my research.  Let
me know if I can send anything further.  Regards, Lew Griffin
