"This information is passed down from generation. Rev John HARRIS and his wife
Mary HANDY Had a daughter named Elizabeth. She married a man by the name of
Joseph ERVING and they had a daughter named Sarah Giles ERVING. This daughter
married Elizabeth HARRIS' brother Pvt. John HARRIS II Esq. and Mary PICKENS son,
John HARRIS III. Just the last name of Sarah Giles ERVING is a different
spelling.
A little history on John HARRIS II. He's buried on the Harrisburg
Plantation, Anderson Co., S.C. He was also wounded in the Revolutionary war and
lost one eye.
Rev John HARRIS was an ordained Presbyterian pastor of Indian River, Delaware
in 1756. He resigned in 1769 and traveled south with 5 other men to form the
south Carolina Presbytery.
Like I said this has been passed down from Generation to generation and it
has not been proven.

Terry ... I needed to send you a correction on my line. It involves the wife
of John Harris III, born 22 Feb, 1789. His wife was named Sarah Gilliss Irving
Harris. Her maiden name was Harris. The confusion comes in because she has 3
first names! As was the custom of the time, she married her cousin, John
Harris III.

VISIT OUR FAMILY TREE by Clara Haines. In this book, Clara cites the settling
of Handy Harris's widow's estate as the basis for Sarah Gilliss Irving Harris
being the daughter of Handy.
Hope this clears up this complicated situation!
