p. 147. "Champ PICKENS became famous in football annals as the orginator of
the Blue and Gray football game, played each New Year's day in Montgomery,
Alabama. He started his career as a sports promoter when he was studen manager
of the University of Alabama football team in 1896. He was responsible for the
Crimson Tide's first invitation to play in the Rose Bowl in 1927. PICKENs'
autobiography, A REBEL IN SPORTS, was published in 1956 by A. S. Barnes
Company."

THE PICKENS FAMILY:
p. 33-34. "Thomas Monroe HENRY, son of Patrick HENRY and Mary CHAMBERS HENRY
of Scott Co., Mississippi. Patrick was younges son of Rev. John M. HENRY and
wife Jane PICKENS HENRY. Jane PICKENS was a first cousin of Samuel Anderson
PICKENS.
[After his first wife died, Thomas md. her younger sister, and she raised
the children from his first marriage.] For many years their home was on North
Street, only a few blocks from the Old Capitol Building. He was once Insurance
Commissioner of Mississippi, and held other offices of public trust on a state
level, and closely associated with his brother, R. H. HENRY, editor of the
Clarion Ledger in Jackson [MS]."
