Ivan was born on a farm three miles north and one and one half mile east of Bristow. Upon leaving school after the eight grade, he worked as a farm hand in Wausa, NE. On January 31, 1934 he married Marguerite Lucille Marlatt. Marguerite was the youngest of three children of Marlin Ray Marlatt and Gertrude Peck from south of Spencer, NE. Marguerite was born July 3, 1910 and currently lives in the Boyd County Nursing home in Butte, NE. Their two children were Leland Gene Hiatt and Donna Ilene Hiatt Wilson. THey first lived south of Spencer, and later moved to the first farm north of Bristow. They later moved into the community of Bristow. Ivan was employed first at the grain elevator in Bristow, and was later the postmaster there from 1955 to 1973. He was active in teh Methodist Chruch, the Lions Club, was the Boy Scout troop master, and on the school board for several years. Marguerite was also active in the community, primarily United Methodist Women.
