909-875-5473Dear Tanya,
It was nice to talk to you last evening. I do hope we can connect our families, you sounded like a very gracious lady, one I would like to get to know and be related to.
I do think your husband, Larry, and my husband, Glenn, must have a progenitor lurking about somewhere.
What I know for sure: His great-great grandparents were Daniel and Teresa (Rager) Teeter. Daniel died when his son, Nathaniel, was about four years old. Teresa left Nathaniel with her brother's family, Henry and Margaret Rager (1850 and 1860 censuses). She took another son, David, and went "west". (Nathaniel was born, 4 Oct 1843, in Jackson Township, Cambria County, PA.) Daniel was killed in a buggy accident near that place.
David was in Dunlap, Iowa in September 1876 according to a letter found in an old Family Bible. He wrote to Nathaniel to inform him of 'Grandmother Teeter's death. The estate was being administered by Cousin Jacob B. Teeter of Grand Detour, Ogle Co., IL.
Jacob was easy to find, but two years later I find Catherine Whetstone, who I believe is 'Grandmother' died, 20 May 1876, and is buried in Ogle County, IL. The problem arises when I find that her daughter, Elizabeth Davis, by a previous marriage, married the above said Jacob B. Teeter. Somewhere along the line, Catherine also married a Jacob Teeter from the same area in PA, but thought to be no relation of Jacob B., husband of Elizabeth.
Does this sound like I'm my own Grandpa? It may turn out that way!!!
I'll try not to confuse you anymore than I've already done. You can see why I did not want to go into this on the phone.
Do any of these names or events make any sense to you? Either proven or disproven? I would appreciate hearing from you and possibly sharing information if we are 'barking up the same family tree'.Questions that come to mind are:
What happened to David? There are about six of them in Iowa at that time.
Do you know anything about Teresa? I've lost her, also. She probably remarried and different name.
Do you know Catherine's Jacob's parents or early tid bits about him? Jacob B. is a cousin of ours, but I believe Catherine's Jacob is a direct ancestor of ours. Jacob B. Comes through the Abraham Teeter line and I believe Catherine's Jacob may have come through the John Teeter line. (Abraham and John were brothers.)
Do you have any information on the John Teeter line? He was born about 1750 in Franklin County, PA?Thank you in advance for any considerations you may give to all these 'ramblings'.
Sincerely Grace A. Teeter (signed)
David was known to be in Dunlap, IA in Sept. 1876 from a letter from an old family bible when he wrote to Nathaniel concerning the death of grandmother Teeter, would have been Catherine Whetstone (Davis/Teeter).
