Hello Larry,
I am emailing you a photograph of the page of our William Bull- Miriam Gardner (m 4th great grand parents) family bible that shows the marriage of S Caroline Talbert to Nathaniel Newby. Our bible shows their wedding date to be the 7th month 19th day of 1876. Our bible is owned by my Mothers sister, Roberta Bernice Kline Shinn.Sarah Caroline Talbert, in with the family bible pages was a word pad document describing the contents Aunt Roberta found inside of the bible ll this is an exerpt.
A receipt from N. Newby on July 30, 1909 for $25 to apply on church pledge. No name of church. Signed off Johnashon and H. W. Darling.
I suspect that hte church was a Quaker Church, because Sarah's half sister, Mary Emily Talbert, was very Quaker, as was Sarah's step mother, (my 3rd great grandmother) Eliza Paddock. I was told either Nathan or Cecil was a doctor. I have no proof though.
I find Newby's name again in my great grandmother's newspaper wedding notice where Mrs. Cecil Newby is listed as an out of town guest at the weddign of Lucille Nelson and Leonard B. Coffey. I foudn the clipping in my grandmother's family Albums and of course, I scanned it. I would like to determine what church Johnashonand H. W. Darling are from. Was it common for Quakers to do fund raisers? The church as either in Kansas or Indiana, I am sure of that. This is all I have on my Newby connections.... Donna from California DLRS44@aol.com
NELSON - COFFEY WEDDING
On last Tuesday evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson, 116 Locust street, Miss Lucille Nelson, was united in marriage to Mr. Leonard B. Coffey. In the presence of the family and a few close friends, the ceremony was very impressively performed by Rev. Walter Davis of this city.Miss Nelson made an ideal bride in a gown or white Persian lan, and carrying bride's roses.
Immediately after the ceremony a delicious three course supper was served. The house was elaborately decorated with chrysanthemums and beautifully colored autumn leaves.
Many beautiful presents were received by the contracting parties.
Mrs. Coffey is a well known young lady of this city and the groom is a ishing young business man of Charlesto, OK. He is also well known in political circles, having been deputy sherriff of Woodward Co., OK, for the past six years.
The out of town guests were Mrs. Claude Hayden of Douglas and Mrs. and Mr. Cecil Newby of Englewood.

My 2x great aunt married a Newby, his name was Nathaniel Newby. Her name was Sarah Caroline Talbert, d/o Milo Talbert and Mary D. James. Mrs. Cecil Newby is mentioned in the newspaper account of my Great grandmother (Lucile Nelson) marriage to Leonard B. Coffey. I am sure Cecil was a cousin of my grandmother.
Supporting evidence. Witchita newspaper clipping found in my aunt Mildred's albums that she inherited from my grandmother. (I have a scanned copy).
A reciept Nathaniel Newby from donating money to a chruch found in Our Family Bible transcribed by my Aunt Roberta.
Sarah Caroline Talbert Newby was referred to as "Newby" by my family. I have many scanned photos of her. Sarah was born 1849. Her mother (Mary d Jame) Sister, (Ann Elizabeth) and her grandmother, Miriam (Mary) Gardner Talbert, all died from Cholera in July 1849. Sarah was raised by her father, Milo Talbert until he remarried in 1854 to Eliza Paddock.
