Elizabeth A. MCCONNAUGHEY

  Rites held for Mrs. McConnehey - Burial services for Mrs. Elizabeth McConnehey, who passed away Sunday at her home, 609 Louden Street, were held Tuesday afternoon 2:30 o'clock from the Humphreys & Son Company's funeral home on North Main street.
   Rev. Samuel Furrow, pastor of the First Baptist Church conducted the services adn those acting as pallbearers were: George, Marion and Ralph Post, Oliver Cooper and Harry and Elza McConnehey.
   Internment was made in Oak Dale Cemetery, by Humphreys."

Elzie Ellsworth CAPLINGER

    Elizabeth A. had a son, Elsie, also later spelled Elzie, before she married David Calvin.  His name was Elzie Caplinger but he was raised under the name McConnaughey.  He did not know his name was not McConnaughey until a grown man and continued using the McConnaughey name all his life.  In checking the records, in the 1880 census, Highland Co., OH, we find Elizabeth A., age 4 months, in the household of her grandfather, Francis M. McConnaughey, (son of William McConnaughey adn Sarah Resley) along with her mother, Eliza Jane McConnaughery. In the 1900 census, Highland Co., OH, we still find Elizabeth A. in the household of her grandfather with her son, Elzie (Elzie) Caplinger.  A certified birth certificate obtained states:   Elsie Caplinger born 25 December 1896, son of James Caplinger and Elizabeth A. McConnaughery.  Elizabeth's mother (Ella Jane) no longer in the household, having married 27 Nov 1884 to Frederick Post.  In the 1910 census, Champaign Co., OH, we find ELizabeth and Elzie (listed as Lizzie and Eliza) with David McConnaughey (Cal).  Elzie's widow (2nd Marriage) states his name was not Elzie until "Cal" and Elizabeth were married so his name could have very well been Elsie as stated on the birth certificate instead of beign a misspelling.  From different sources, we have concluded he went by the name of Elizie Ellsworth McConnaughey and will refer to him as such henceforth.  At the end of this section, we are including the descendants of Elzie as through his mother he is a descendant of our line and also to clarify Elzie for other researchers.
