Thomas Franklin Hays
Thomas Franklin Hays, 90 years of age, passed away March 6th at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Millard D. Warner, 4201 Chestnut St., Kansas City, MO.
Mr. Hays was born in Daviess Co., MO Dec 12, 1843, He was the son of Samuel and Mariah Seats Hays. He married Laura Frances Busholz of Gallatin. There were seven children: Thomas, who died in infancy in Gallatin; Lester, the oldest son, who died in Kansas City in June of 1922; Eugene, of Los Angeles, CA. and Herbert F., of Kansas City, and another daughter, Miss Grace K. Hays of the home. His wife, Laura, died in Kansas City in Oct., 1922. He is also survived by eight grand children and three great grand children living in Kansas City.
Mr. Hays was a verteran of the Civil War having enlisted in Gallatin on February 3rd, 1862, in Company A, 1st Regiment of cavalry, Missouri State Militia Joseph H. McGee was captain of Company A and S. P. Cox was major in the first regiment.
Dr. George Hamilton combs pastor of the Country Club Christian Church, who had known Mr. Hays and his family for over thirty years, conducted the funeral services. The veteran's flag covered the casket which was carried by his three grandsons in law to his last resting place in Forest Hill cemetery, beside his wife and two sons.
Taps were sounded at the grave as a fitting close to the cherished memory of an honorable life.

Death of Mrs. Hadley Brown
Mrs. Mariah Brown, relict of the late Hadley Brown, died at hte home of her daughter, Mr. J. E. Hull, in this city Sunday morning, after a long illness from cancer; aged 81 years, 1 month and 19 days.
Mrs. Brown's maiden name was Seat and she was as sister of the late Mrs. John J. Everely. She was born in cooper Co., this state. She came to Daviess Co. (MO) when she was 18 years of age and lived with her sister, Mrs. Everly, until her marriage to Samuel Hays in 1841. Thomas f. Hays, now residing in Kansas City, was born of this union. Samuel Hays died about 1855 and his widow became Mrs. Hadley Brown in 1861. Mrs. J. E. Hull is the daughter of this union. Mr. Brown died about eight years ago.
Mrs. Brown was a woman of strong character and one of the most known and respected of the pioneer women of Daviess County.
THe funeral was held from the Baptist Church Monday afternoon at 1:30, conducted by Rev. J. M. McManaway, and the internment was in Brown Cem.
