Jesse Venable, under compulsion served two years in the Confederate army during the civil war. He finally deserted, came north in 1864 and located in the community now known as Tile Factory Corner, seven miles northwest of Noblesville, Ind.,  where he farmed for many years. He had been here only a short time until he enlisted in the 147th Indiana Regiment and served until the close of the war.  Jesse and Eliza had been married fifty-five years at the time of Eliza death, and had twenty-one grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Jesse second marriage  was to Mrs Ellen Stonebraker in 1923. He was a active member of the local G. A. R. as long as his health would permit and served as its commander five terms, during that time he was absent from only three meetings on account of not being well. Jesse had many friends throughout the county. He often said that he held no malice against anyone and loved everybody. The only position of puplic trust that he ever held was that of superintendent of the County Farm. He was appointed to this place in 1902 and served for four years. He was originally a member of the Friends Church  but became identified with the Christian Church after his second marriage.
