Mary Harvey celebrated her 90th birthday with a open house from 2-4: pm. Sunday at the Christ United Methodist Church in Westfield, Indiana. She was born Oct 3, 1897, on her grandfather John Hinshaw's farm Near Hortonville, Indiana, the daughter of William E. and Flora (Ressler) Hinshaw, she attended Hortonville Elementary School and gratuated from Westfield High School in 1915. She was married to Perry Harvey on April 18 1917, and still resides in the same home in which the couple built in 1918, on the Harvey farm south of Eagletown,Indiana. Her husband Perry died in 1962. She was organist at Eagletown Methodist Church for 39 years and taught Sunday school for 35 years. Mary was the first president of the Friendly Eagles Home Ec Club from 1940-41, and is now a honorary member of the club. She was a volunteer in the gift shop at Riverview Hospital, Noblesville,Indiana, for 9 years. In 1983, she was crowned Hamilton County Senior Queen at the age of 85. Mary is active in Fun For Folks, Outlook Club, United Methodist Women, and is a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Westfield, Indiana, which she attends regularly. Her many talents keep her busy as she enjoys making quilts, tatting, sewing, working her yard and playing piano and organ. In 1977, she wrote the story of her life and presented copies to her family for Christmas. A copy was placed in the Westfield Library for interested readers. She has lived through an era of so many "first". She calls these the" Golden Years " At the age of 80, she began writing poetry and to date has written more than 900 poems, two volumes are bound in book form and a third to follow.
