Jordan HIATT

Found in HH Book, found in Harmon Hiatt record, page 12, 1895.

Jordan Hiatt and Edith Ferris Hiatt settled on a farm west of his father's old place which was now owned by a Ferris, father of his wife Edith.  (Milton, Wayne Co., Ind).  They remained on this farm and raised a large family of children, bright, intelligent and useful citizens.  One peculiarity of Jordan was that he believed it wrong to take interest on a note for any property or money loaned.  He never would have one cent for anything.  He was much esteemed by his neighbors, and died on the farm where he first located.

10th Month 12th day, 1859:  We were greatly moved by hearing of the sudden and unexpected decease of our nephew, Jesse D. HIATT, of Kansas, which occured on the evening of the fourth instant.  He was a valuable young man, who will be much missed at the meeting and in the circle in which he belonged.  Their grief will be poignant, but the Supreme Ruler in His insurutable wisdom has things as He will, and orders all for the best.  It becomes us to accept his dispensations with submission and deep reverence.

Mordecai HIATT

From Genealogy of the Hiatt Family according to Harmon Hiatt, of
Crawfordville, Ind.

They moved to Milton Wayne Co., Ind. He, like his father was a saddle and harness maker and successfully conducted the business selling thousands of his goods and growing up a family of pleasant and intelligent children.  He was a consistant Quaker, and his wife, Rhoda Dicks Hiatt, was a woman beloved by all her aquaintance.  I have seen him showing his goods, and if there was any defect, he always pointed it out first to his customer.  They had 10 children.
