. Jesse VENABLE, 3829. Born on 12 Dec 1798 in Surry Co.,NC. Jesse died in Surry Co.,NC on 29 May 1882, he was 83. Buried in Jesse Venable Farm.

Jesse was a farmer in Dobson Township, Surry County, NC. He wrote his will 20 Apr 1880 and it was probated in June, 1882, and recorded in Surry County Will Book 6, page 166+.

On 29 Jan 1823 when Jesse was 24, he married Nancy BOWLES, 3828, daughter of William BOWLES Sr., 2584 (ca1772-1849) & Elizabeth REDDICK, 2585 (1778-1821), in Stokes Co.,NC. Born  ca 1805 in Stokes Co.,NC. Nancy died in Stokes Co.,NC on 24 Apr 1858, she was 53.

They had the following children:

Pleasant VENABLE

. Pleasant VENABLE, 3880. Born on 13 Nov 1836 in Surry Co.,NC. Pleasant died in Shenandoah County,Va. on 15 Nov 1863, he was 27. Buried in Our Soldiers Cemetery.

Pleasant was a member of Company "H", 23rd Regiment, NC Troops, when he died in the Confederate Hospital Hospital in Mount Jackson, Shenandoah Co.,Va.  He is buried in the hospital cemetery.


Henderson W. ELLIS

Conscripted and enlisted 1 Nov 1864.  Taken prisoner 2 Apr 1865 near Petersburg, VA and a POW at Fort Delaware, DEL, he took the Oath of Allegiance 19 Jun 1865.  CO A REG NC


Mary J. VENABLE

Mary VENABLE, 3870. Born on 28 May 1824 in Surry Co.,NC. Mary died in Bryan Twp., Surry Co.,NC  ca 1852, she was 27.

On 31 Dec 1845 when Mary was 21, she married Henderson ELLIS, 3871, in Surry Co.,NC.


Stephen G. VENABLE

Per Michael O. Brown in his VENABLE book, page 262.  Stephen was the "high sheriff" of Surry County.
Also per The Venable Letter, he was a Captain in the Confederate Army, 74th Regiment, 18th Brigade, enlisted April 1, 1862, Surry County.

Stephen G. "Steve" VENABLE, 3875. Born on 30 Jun 1835 in Surry Co.,NC. Stephen G. "Steve" died in Surry Co.,NC on 18 Jul 1902, he was 67. Buried in Stephen Venable Farm.

On 13 May 1860 when Stephen G. "Steve" was 24, he married Kizzie Vashti JONES, 3876, in Surry Co.,NC.

served as high sheriff of Surry County and wife Kizzie served as postmaster of Venable post office which was located in their home.. the Venable School was on their property.


Keziah T. "Kizzie" Vashti JONES

Per Michael O. Brown in his VENABLE book, page 262.  Kizzie served as Postmaster of the Venable Post Office and operated out of their home.  A Venable also was located on their property.


William L. LAFFOON

   William and Mary sold their property in Surry County, NC. in 1831, and moved to Clairborne County, Tenn. and in 1859  moved to Cass County, Missouri with his second wife.  William and Wilson married Venable sisters
