OCCU Farmer
Upon studying the 1850, 1860, and 1870 Walker County, Georgia census records for Thomas J. and his family, it appears that Thomas may have been married three times. In the 1850 census Thomas is 49 and married to Susanah b. abt. 1808 in Virginia. Living with them were: Thomas J. age: 17, Edmund?, age: 15, Andrew, age: 5, Eliza J., age: 2, Ruth, age: 5, and Rebecca, age: 76.Although the 1860 Walker County, Georgia census mentions the names as J.J. Tipton, Sr. and J.J. Tipton, Jr, there are many similarities between them and both Thomas Tiptons. Their ages fit the dates of birth as well as their places of birth.
J.J. Tipton, Jr lived at dwelling number 724. He was 27 years old and he was born in Tennessee. His wife was apparently Martha and she was 24 years old. William was 1 year old. Living at dwelling number 725, was J. J. Tipton, Sr. He was 60 years old and living with him was, Henrietta Tipton age 71. She was born in N.C. Edmond was 24 years old. Jane P. was 19. Ruth L. was 16. Andrew H. was 13 and Mary E. was 11.In the 1870 Walker County, Georgia census, Thomas J. is 69 years old and a farmer. Living with him was Rachel, age 49. She was born in Georgia. Andrew H. was 25 and a farm laborer.
More research is needed to prove this theory.
Susannah is his second wife.
