Henry served in the civil war, Infantry division 16 Mo Calvary July 15, 1864-June 30, 1865
Henry owned 160 acres in Dallas County Mo.Henry G. True, I think was born in Mercer County, Ky. Dec 3, 1829. Died Jan 1, 1875 in Dallas County, MO. Buried in the Harmon Graveyard, which is currently owned by my brother.
He apparently was married prior to coming to Missouri, although there is little evidence to support this. The following is a quote from my brother:"He had been married before he married out great-grandmother. He had one son by the name of John that (that we know of) came to visit Grandpa True, when our father was a child, but he remembers him coming. He was about 20 years older than Uncle Byron."
He married Elmira when she was about 15 years old. They had 5 children:
William
Rosana
Byron Alonzo
Steven Nineva
FannieHenry G. True died as follows: (from my brother)
"According to Dad, he drove a wagon from the Old Harmon House to Urbana, came back and misjudged how deep Thomas Creek was and drove in and the water came up to his chest on the wagon. It was in February and he died of pneumonia. He wouldn't of been fifty years old. I can go to the graveyard and see the date on the tombstone"
I realize that this doesn't agree with the Jan 1 date of death. That can be clarified.
Henry served in six (6) military organizations during the Civil War. He was wounded at the battle of Wilson's Creek. Apparently the situation was that a man was safer in the military than as a civilian. The unit's he enlisted in are as follows:
Osage County Home Guard, Jun 24, 1861
4th Regt, C.v.MSM Jan 24, 1862
Co A, 14th Reg't Cav. SM Vols
Co L, 4th Reg't SM Cav
Co I, 16th Reg't Mo. Cav
Co I, 6th Reg't Enrolled Mo MilitiaI have documentation on all of these enlistments.
William True (Willie) died when about the age of 15. "Willie was killed right south of the Palace Schoolhouse. He was hauling logs and one fell from the wagon and crushed his skull.
He was about 15 at the time and his father was already dead".From my Uncle: "I think grandfather got a slight wound in the foot at the battle of Wilson Creek"
My note: Grandpa Harmon was the one who got shot in the foot. Grandpa True was shot in the hand. His horse was killed, his saddle was bloody and his wife, Elmira, was notified that he had been killed at Wilson Creek. Grandma Harmon and Elmira rode sidesaddle to Springfield to look for them.
Talking to my father: "This shows me that they were already married before the wound.
Dad say that Jabez Harmon and Grandpa True took another soldier to the Harmon Place when he was sick. He died and they took him out in the field and buried him. This was the first person buried in the Harmon Graveyard. This was also when Henry and Elmira first met".Elmira was married twice after Henry's death. 2d_______Richardson and had a daughter, Alice. Married 3d: Alec Morrison.
