My mother wrote a note which said that this Grandfather was quiet and that she loved him, even though he did not pay a lot of attention to the grandchildren.  My mother also use to also tell us about how he use to like to scare the kids and tell them scary stories.  Like the Ghost in the potatoe celler, just like the celler in Grandma Goldies old house on Monroe St.
She told us of a time when some older boys would scare my mom and some of the other smaller children as they walked home, sometimes thru the graveyard. So he put a sheet over his self and waited one evening for them in the grave yard and when they came along he jumped out after them and scared them so bad they would never tease the girls again.
Grandpa Teeter died as the result of a fall down a flight of stairs in Grandma Hiatt's house just off 24th and Vinton St.  He was coming down the stairs when he fell down the steep stair way and head long through the glass window at the bottom of the flight of stairs.  My mother was there also and she has always felt so badly about him falling, she ran out and saw him lying and injured on the ground.  He died a couple of days later.
Grandpa Teeter was over six feet tall, his father Jacob William was also over six feet.  He use to be referred to as short Jake, as his father was called long Jake.  Jacob Martin and his father were wall paper hangers.  I have an old tin type which is very faint but can be seen enough to see these two men in their shop with rolls of paper behind them.  They both had long handlebar mustaches. Tall Jake, Sr had a full white beard and mustache with long handles.

Laura Mae BURGER

Laura Mae Burger was promised to marry George Burger as a pre-marriage agreement between parents.  Marriages were arranged, grandma Teeter/Hiatt use to tell us how her mother had loved another, but could not marry him, as she
was already promised to George, since childhood.  There were other Burger - Teeter marriages, making it seem as though there was a family bond for many years and generations.
In the autograph book of her brother, Albert Burger, she wrote:
Dear Brother,
  Golden has been the past
  Bright may thy future be
And tho distance may divide us
Keep one little thought for me.
     Your Sister,  Laura Burger.

From Grandma Goldie Mae Teeter, Hiatt,  "Laura Burger, lived with a family named Nally, (Nalley) for a long time.  When they died, they left her a couple thousand dollars in Dixon, Ill.
My mother, Ruby Hiatt, Anderson, said that this grandmother, whom she knew and loved, was very modern.  She loved to have new and pretty dresses, and would take her to the movies.  She was fond of all the children and loved to have them with her.
The name of Nalley is very uncommon, found a family 1870 census at Mt. Morris Twnshp, Ogle Co., Ill.  pg. 50 #33

Laura is not mentioned in the 1880 census with her mother and brother, with the marriage of Eli Wolfkill.  See census of 1880, Pine Creek, Ogle Co., Ill. pg 142 #86.

My mother wrote a note for me concerning her grandmother Laura:  "Grandma Teeter was always small, about 5 feet and never got very heavy.  She was a real sweetie.  She was a real hard worker and always loving and kind.  She liked to have one of us stay with her overnight, or even a week.  She would take us to movies, shoping, etc.  I never saw her sit idle, always found something useful to do.

Harold Foster WALKER

S/o Frank (None) Walker & Della Ora Cure.  Della born 15 January 1880 passed away 26 Nov 1967.  SENT by RUBY ANDERSON.
Harold Walker was one of those individuals whose great gift in life was to be a peacemaker and help to all those around him.  He and his wife, Wanda Hiatt
Walker, were always pleasant, kind and explified the true Christian way of
life.  I could think of no greater attribute to pay to any individual other
than that of an honest, loving and generous parent with malace nor envy to
or of any others.  Wanda and Harold Walker were always supportive of others
in the family and helped to hold together a spirit of unity and love of all
the family members.  Our families often had get togethers, camp outs, picnics and reunions together and with the other cousins, aunts and uncles.  Spent a lot of years going to Louisville State Park.
Harold was also a veteran of WWII.  He suffered a great deal the last year or two of his life with cancer and we were all greived to see him so.  His death was a great loss to us all.

Wanda May HIATT

Information from Wanda Walker.

Sent by Ruby Anderson.  Wanda was born in Omaha and always lived there.
Married Harold Walker, worked at Wilson's packing over 30 years.  When Harold was in the Army she went to San Francisco for about 1 years, then they went to San Louis, Harold served in the Pacific War, brought back a Japanese Head, helmet and all, I recall seeing it maybe up till about 1980 and I think Wanda made him finally bury it in his back yard.  When Harold was sent over seas Wanda went back to Omaha and worked at Wilsons Packing House.  After 18 years of marriage they adopted 2 boys. They use to come to visit us in Oroville a few times, always enjoyed their visits.  They held the family gatherings at their house a few times, Harold and Art build the houses they lived in.  They had a wonderful life together until he got cancer.  Died 3 years before her, when she also died from Cancer.  When Harold died, she lost all her will to live, how much I really miss her and Harold, such a fine and loving couple, wish I knew more to write of their lives but all is gone now to recall the stories.
                       Wanda Hiatt Walker
Born 1 June 1921 in Omaha, Douglas, Neb.  passed away 3 Dec 1990 Omaha, Douglas, Neb.   Wanda was the daughter of Goldie Mae Teeter Hiatt and Fred Osten Hiatt.  Wanda married Harold Walker in Omaha, Neb.  They were the parents of 2 son's Michael and Daniel Walker.  Wanda had one Grandson Daniel Walker McCall (adopted by Daniel Sr. ex-wife and husband Scott).  Wanda was one of the truest Christian persons I have ever known, she never had a cross word or evil thought of anyone, she was always kind and helpful.  She loved her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  I at least am comforted to know that she rests in the love of God and is at peace with him and those who have gone before to greet her as she joined them.  Internment in the Hillcrest Ceme.    by Larry Anderson.

Wanda and Harold adopted Mike and Danny, they were both of the same mother, they were so prized and loved by Wanda and Harold, always so proud of their sons, was so glad to see them so happy as they always wanted children so badly.  Wanda especially for me, was so good to us, always doing little things since we were kids, a little candy, a few cents to get something, etc., always smiling and happy.

Danial Harold WALKER

Sent by Ruby Anderson.  I spoke with Chuck 14 Jan 2008, he said that Danny had died of a stabbing, but had no further info, the date, conditions, etc.  Chuck said that his son, Chucky Jr. met with Mike who is working at Certified Transmissions and Mike told him the story, that is all we know so far.  Danny was always having problems, a nice kid, very likeable but was always into some kind of mischief.
