Anderson, brother to Seth, in Spring Creek Twp., just northeast of Oskaloosa. Seth had married in Iowa and bought this farm in 1849 from his father in law,
John Beals, then sold it at a nice profit a few short years later and
eventually moved to Kansas with his family and son in-laws. A few years ago we visited this cemetery - Spring Creek Friends - now abandoned which is very near what would have been Seth's farm.
Dau. of John Beals, had farm which he sold to Seth Bray, his son in law,

1 f 26/44John must be a brother to Edward and Daniel, possibly his son. This Edward Bray was a member of the Church of England.
From the Bray - Shelton Jameson History and Lineage Record Descendans of Edward Bray who came to Amercan Colonies from England in 1699?? as compiled by the reunion historical committee, we find some suggestions as to the original Bray Family in Normandy, France who lived under the rule of William the Conqueror and accompanied him to England. There are also records showing that several members of the de Bray family were among the person of quality who fought for the French Crown against the English in 1337 and in other wars of the period. This information was found in DICTIONAIRE de la CHENAYE DESBOIS at BADLIER. Vol. 14, pp. 24, 25, 26 Paris, France 1864, Third Edition.
See notes from George Sedgley's Gen. of the Burbank Family and the Families of Bray, Welcome, Sedgley and Welsh, published by Knowlton and McLeary Co., Farmington, Maine, we learn that in a dictionary of English famlies the Bray families are many and widely settled. It is presumed this is the husband of Sarah Maynard and that he did not die as some think in 1760. Of course, it may be Edward, brother of Henry b. 1755. The date given for Edward Bray's death, 1-5-1760, is the same date given in records of Cane Creek MM, Orange and Chatham Counties, N.C., pertaining to membership of Sarah Bray who was received. On 2-3-1798 she was granted a certificate to Deep Creek MM where she died. Edward Bray signed marriage certificate for son Henry and Kezia Jones Feb. 2, 1778. "Henry, son of Edward Bray". In minutes of Chatham County Court for August, 1777 (p. 107) it is stated: "Job McKever, Samuel Carter, Edward Bray, and Isaac Carter being cited before the Court as suspected persons under the Act of Assembly came into Court and refused to comply with said Act, therefore ordered that they depart within 60 days out of this state." This possibly referred to refusing to take the oath of allegiance to the state. It would be interesting to know to which Edward Bray this applies.
Several questions have been raised in this paper, EDWARDS's death date:
Edward was born in 1720, son of Henry b. 1710 or more likely 1681 or sometime in between, - both birth dates need verification if possible; where is there a copy of Edward and Sarah (Maynard) Bray's will which shows that Mary is not
listed as a child but possibly included in "possible other children".A book worth seeing might be "The Loyalists in N.C. During the Rev" by Robert P. Demondm, 286 pgs. indexed.
If Edward Bray actually did not sign the marriage certificate of son Henry, as someone said, at least the statement on the certificate should have said "Henry, son of Edward, deceased" if he actually were. ....Opal LousinRouth Information, from The ROUTH FAMILY In America, by Ross

In a letter from Opal to Betty in 1982, she writes: "... We have the Brays back to be sure Edward's father was Henry and Sarah's father was Henry
Mayner/Maynard/Mainor and mother Probably Susannah Manklin, possibly a half Indian girl. (Other findings indicate Cherokee, later generation of children married additionally into the Cherokee Indians. - See work of E. Isaac Carter) The Maynards are strict Quakers and she was disowned for marrying our of Quaker religion said Edward was a member of the Church of England, although both Edward and Sarah are buried in the Quaker Cem. in N.C. " not by Opal Lousin. From a letter of Opal Lousin Sep 1898: Both Edward and Sarah died about the same time in N.C. he is mentioned as father, of the Church of England and Sarah was a Quaker. They had married in Virginia. Sarah's parents were Henry Maynard (Maynor) and Susanna. I just received a letter stating that the writer had found in records of St. Paul;s Episcopal Church in Baltimore that Sarah Mayner, dtr. of Henry and Susanna Mayner, was born Nov 19, 1733. The parents were not always Friends (Quaker) but in Henry's will he left Sarah out because she married a non-Quaker.
Sarah Maynard is not listed in the will of Henry Maynard as a daughter.
Orange Co., N.C. Will Bk 1, pg. 12: See notes under father.
Another record is that Sarah was born 31 March 1732, and perhaps the date of 19 Nov 1733 is a christianing date.

See information about Richard and Jemima Jones in Ohio. I think we will find that they died in Butler Twp., Montgomery Co., Ohio. I did not find it in Hinshw's vol. 5. For some reason I think it was c1820. There was a small item in the Christian Worker which I thought applied to them once. That magazine and American Friend are both good papers to find information about deaths, marriages, etc. during those early uears, to 1890's.
Richard and Jemima had gone from Fairfiedl MM to Mill Creek MM 11-26-1816. Mill Creek was set off from West Branch MM in 1811 and was in Miami County, Ohio.
Abijah had gone to West Branch MM in 1808, and died in Butler Twp., Montogomery Co., Ohio in 1856 as you learn in the family sheets by Rita Townsend, a descendant. Dayton is county seat.
Reference to this family also found in Cane Creek MM, N.C., pg. 358
Deep River MM, N.C., pg. 822
New Garden MM, N.C., pg. 555
George Moore in his book, Sumner Family History pg. 572 gives the birth date as 5 Dec 1732, Chester Co., Pa.
The families of Richard Jones and Jemima Huff are followed quite thouroughly in the pages of the Quaker records by Hinshaw, N.C. Richard does not appear in records as I have been thus far, as does his wife and chidlren, after about 1800. On pg. 990-991 of Vol 1, of Hinshaw, N.C. records, Jemima with several of her children are mentioned in the Deep Creek MM records, however, no record is made of Richard, the father.Hinshaw records indicate that Jemima removed to Harlan Co., Ohio 1808 and to Miami Co., Ohio in 1816.
