John H. and Hannah Shelton Bray moved from Kentucky to Indian Territory in 1815, locating in Madison.  They endured many hardships phsical and economic, and also a lack of educational opportunities.  One of the prized possessions of our family is a copy book made for my grandfather by his mother, Hannah Bray, which is covered by the Madison newpaper dated 1817.  In this book he had spelling and arithmatic lessons.   (Found in notes from Bray-Shelton Reunion)
