John H. and Hannah Shelton Bray moved from Kentucky to Indian Territory in
1815, locating in Madison. They endured many hardships phsical and economic,
and also a lack of educational opportunities. One of the prized possessions of
our family is a copy book made for my grandfather by his mother, Hannah Bray,
which is covered by the Madison newpaper dated 1817. In this book he had
spelling and arithmatic lessons. (Found in notes from Bray-Shelton Reunion)See chart sent by Treva Lefler prepared by Mrs. Margaret Bray, 10104 S.

From Susan Bray Burris, youngest child of Edward and Elizabeth Bray,
written in 1887: "My father, Edward Bray, died 9-14-1872, age 86 years. He
lived in Hamilton Co., Indiana near 40 years, he was the father of 13 children,
6 died while small and 7 lived to raise families. he moved to Hamilton Co.
when it was mostly a wilderness. He cut down a large oak tree on a nice hill
and built a fire by the log and his wife did their cooking by that fire until
he could build a cabin and get moved in it." The date of marriage was given by Ky. marriages records book, however, I
doubt the accuracy of it as it does not coincide with age of children nor
parents.
There is some confusion here also, as Hinshaw gives marriage date
different, as well as burial date of June 21, 1862.

Edward & Elizabeth (Shelton) Bray list of family with birth and some burial
dates and places.Opal Lousin, 3 Dec 1992: ..."In "Register of Kentuycky Historical Society,
on p. 344+, it shows:
Edward Bray and Elizabeth Shelton married 21 Jan. 1797 Madison Co., Ky.
John Bray and Hannah Shelton m. 3rd Dec. 1807 Madison Co., Ky.
Richard Bray and Polly Shelton m. 30 Dec. 1814 Madison Co., Ky.
(This means at least John Had gone on to Madiosn Co.,Ky. That was the year
that Abijah was born in NC) Posslibly it might have the records of Abijah and
Isabella's marrigage if the record goes that far a few more years."...NOTES FROM BRAY-SHELTON REUNION
...."Edward Bray settled in the area of Hamilton Co. (Indiana) five miles
north of Westfield, on the Westfield Road, in the year 1833. The land my
grandfather setteled eight years later was close by on what is now Road 38.
Herbert Bray who is a member of this Reunion and who is present today is a
great grandson of Edward Bray, and still lives on the land his great
grandfather settled. Another great grandson who is a member of the Reunion and
who is here today is Waldo Beals. His grandmother, Emily Bray Beasl was a
daughter of Edward. Two other daughters, Susan who married Pleasant Burris,
and mary, who married Henry Sturdevant are represented by members of this
Reunion but I do not believe that any are present. Two great granddaughters of
Edward Bray, and granddaughters of Emily Bray Beals, are members of the Reunion
and are here today, Eula Beals Eakin and Gladys Tomlinson Woods. Great, great
grandsons present are Lyndon Beals, son of Homer Beals, and Ralph and Fred
Woods, sons of Gladys Woods. Great, great, great grandchildren present are
Shirley Ann and Gary Woods, children of Fred Woods."...John H. and Hannah Shelton Bray moved from Kentucky to Indian Territory in
