Obituary - Weldon A. Hiatt
Dies in Hospital
Weldon A. Hiatt, 69, 2050 Penterson Ave., died in a Missoula hospital early
Saturday.
He was born Jan., 25, 1896, in Fremont Co., Iowa. He went to Crawford,
Neb., and ran a garage there until 1937 when he moved to Ovando where he
operated a ranch and worked for the Blackfoot Forest Protective Association.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Modern Woodmen.
His wife, Ruth, died in Missoula in December 1955.
He is survived by three sons, Dwight and Marvin, both of Missoula, and
Lyle, Lincoln:(Montana), four daughters, Mrs. Floyd Hubbard, Seattle; Mrs.
Norris Woolen, Spokane; Mrs. Thomas Miller, McAllister, and Mrs. Edward Bays,
Lincoln, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; three half brothers, Harlo Needles, Ovando
and Woodrow Needles, Grass Valley, Calif.; a stepbrother, Norman Needles,
Cornville, Ariz., and two half sisters, Mrs Brunke Schmidt, Crawford, Neb., and
Mrs. Bruce Turpin, Malagar, Wash.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Squire-Simmons-Carr Mortuary.
The family requests that memorials be in the form of contributions to the
American Cancer Society.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Squire-Simmons-Carr Rose
Chapel for Weldon A. Hiatt, 69, 2050 Peterson Ave. The Rev. Hugh Herbert will
officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Hiatt died in a
Missoula hospital Saturday. The family requests that memorials be in the form
of contributions to The American Cancer Society.From a letter to Paul and Grace and family, Weldon and Ruth wrote the
following letter, Dec. 18, 1950. There are some interesting tid bits for the
family contained therein.Dear Paul & Grace & Family:
We was very glad to receive your card, only Wish you could of come along
with it. We would like to come down that way. But it is quite a ways to come
and Hard for us to get away, I would also like to go back there and See. what
used to be Ralphs wife That is Brother Ralph. She lives at Laucadia, Calif
dont Know just where tha tis from you. Ruth is looking for her adress thought
if it wa snot to far from you. You could run over and See her Sometime. We
Write to her now and then. We did make a trip back east this Fall. We had a
Wonderfull time we went to Crawford and alliance. Loup City and North Loup
then down in Iowa to Clarinda and Granity, then to Corning where we were
married then to Nodaway and Murrey. We were gone about three weeks. We did
Intend to go over to Denver and Salt Lake and back home that way. But I just
got So tired driving I came Home. We Still have Jackie and Nancy with us nd
Joe and Jim Still Work in Missoula, and Bob is in the Air Force and is at
Cheyene, Wyo at Present he Joined up last Febr. Well Paul I cant tell you much
about your Dad Wish I could. In fact I ready dont know any thing about him. I
Never Saw him in my life. You Know I was Not So very old when you were born
Mabe 15 or 16. and never Home past very little and of course the Folks never
did tell me anything. In fact I was about as bad off as you was for a home I
had one So little. I know your Mother came Home From Omaha to Nodway with your
when you were a baby. I think I and Norman met her at the depot I am not Sure
about that: She Said She was married to a man the name of Anderson which was
suposed to be your dad. Seems to me She Said he went to Minniaples, Minn. and
I Know She had Several letters from there But what he came of him from there I
dont Know. I hadnt Saw your mother for Several years up untill She reached you
home. In fact I dont think I Saw her From 1907 till the time you was born. So
We didnt know one another very good. I and Irene Went to the orphans Home in
1907 and that was the last I Saw of any of them only Ralph untill 1910 or 11 I
went to Nadaway. You Know Paul Norman Might could tell you More than I can
He was older than Me and was at home more than I was and for that reason he
might more about It. Norman Still lives in Ovanda nd I will ask him or you can
write him. If the people was still living in Omaha that your Mother used to
Stay with We could Start from there But they might be dead by this time and I
cant think of there names anyway Paul I wouldnt Think much about it. But any
way I can help you out I will be glad to do it and if any thing comes up that I
cant remember now I will let you knowe. Hope you can come back and See us
again We Sure enjoyed your last Visit. I am Trying to build a dairy Barn and
going in to the Milk Business. We have had a pretty good winter So far we have
Some Snow But the Weather has been a full Nice the last 3 Weeks. Wish you all
