Had six children, including St. John.

John Benoni SCOTT

See History of Polk Co., Iowa  pg. 435
The most valuable franchise belonged to Mr. Scott, (John B.) who, as has
already been seen, was licensed to keep a ferry across the Des Moines and 'Coon rivers early in 1847, at the town of Fort Des Moines.  This ferry was much patronized by the people of the county, and as Fort Des Moines was on the most popular through route from the old settled regions to the Far West, there was an immense emigration through here, and Mr. Scott was called upon to carry them across the rivers. ....  As Foreign travel was always charged full rate, it appears that Mr. Scott must have made considerable money in operating the ferry. (First ferry was run May 1, 1846.)
John B. Scott was also a go-between to help settle a serious Indian problem with Poweshiek near the Grand River in southern Iowa. 1845-6.

                                  OBITUARY

ENOS A. TERRY born in Indiana Aug. 10, 1819, died Jamesport, Mo. Sat., Oct. 23, 1897, age 78 yrs, 2 months, 13 days, of complication of complaints and old age.  He was married to Paulina Eads in 1837, who died in 1868. Of this union twelve children were born, eight of whom are yet living. He came to MO in 1841, and has lived in this vicinity during the intervening years. About the time he came here he joined the Christian Church, of which denomination he has continued a worthy and consistent member. In 1869 he was married to Prudence Scott, who survives him, thus leaving a wife, eight children and a number of grandchildren to mourn his decease.  He enlisted in the 43 Mo. volunteer Infantry and served in the war one year, when he was honorably discharged on account of sickness.  His remains were laid to rest Sunday in Scotland cemetery, the funeral services being conducted by Elder Gaul, and a large cortege of loving friends and relatives attended him to his final earthly abode.  He had lived here for many years, and those who knew him best speak of him in terms of strong good will and say he was a loving husband, a tender father, and a true and helpful friend.

ONE BY ONE LIKE THE LEAVES OF AUTUMN, THESE EARLY PIONEERS ARE DROPPING AWAY, AND SOON ONLY PLEASANT MEMORIES OF THEM WILL REMAIN WITH THOSE OF US WHO MAY CONTINUE BEYOND THEIR DAY. (copied from an old clipping belonging to Lucille Terry Dickenson).[Terry.FTW]

Prudence A. SCOTT

See marriage book D pg. 27  I had to include both dates as presented as I have no documentation at this time. I cannot see how there are two birth and death dates but the marriage is given as the same, lacking proof or documentation I must just submit all dates to settle with proof later. Larry Anderson
