William was quite wealthy, he owned many slaves. See Chatham Co., N.C.

William married a Miss Margaret BROOKS, and lived and died in Chatham County,
North Carolina, at the age of 83 years. To him and his wife, Margaret were born
14 children, six sons and eight daughters. The sixth child's name was Harris
and is the next in our line of descent being our father who married Miss Rachel
MOON in Chatham COunty, North Carolina, and to him and Rachel MOON, his wife,
were born ten children-- eight sons and two daughters. After marriage they
moved to Morgan County, Indiana, where he died at the age of 86 years. The
fourth child's name was Eli and is the next in our line of descent. Eli Thomas
BRAY was born in Morgan Coutny, Indiana, November 4, 1827. THe names of Harris
and Rachel BRAY'sa children are: Bradly, Wesely, Austin, Eli THomas, Reily,
William, Younger, Alfred, Rachel and Ellen. He died at Webster, Kansas, May 8,
1918 agee 90 years, 6 months and 4 days. At the age of 21 Eli went to Iowa and
three years later he was married in 1851 to Isabella MARLIN. They lived
together 67 years. She died in Novenber 1918. In 1857, they moved to Missouri
near Springfield, and in the Spring of 1861 he joined the home guard. In
December of that year he joined Phelp's Regiment. The next year he was
transferred to the 14th Missouri of the State Militia and served until it was
united with the 8th Missouri. He fought in the battles of Pea Ridge,
Springfield, Wilson Creek and many others and was mustered out in June 1865.
They moved to Jewel County, Kansas in 1879 and to Rooks County in 1880. To him
and Isabella were born seven children, six sons and on daughter.
