Historical Notes:

(1) The sources state it is possible Robert de Mortaigne, also had a son named
Nigel.  In some sources Robert is referred to as the Earl of Cornwall, but as
pointed out in the Dictionary of National Biography, he was undoubtedly the
greates landowner of all the Lords during the reign of William the Conqueror;
it is not likely he received the title of Earl of Cornwall.

(2) Robert de Mortaigne, Earl of Cornwall, Earl of Moreton, Count of Mortain.
He was in command of the men at Cotentin; Companion of his half-brother,
William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings, 14 October 1066.
