I just got a call from my brother Tom Casey, 6:30 13 Jun3 2013, told me that John died today at 1:30 of his cancer, not a lot of news yet, but so sad, I knew John as a really great guy, hard worker, always jolly and postive. I know he really tried hard to beat the cancer, so hard to understand why and so young. Jim and Lorraine are with him now, Tom said they are planning on cremation. I really wanted to get down to see him but financially just have no way to get there now. The family had a reunion with all the kids and Jim and Lorraine a few days ago, so all were able to visit him while he was alive, that is good at least. John was really so active, motorcycle racing since he was a toddler and good at it. Wish I could get his story to add too. Sorry John that I was not able to be there with you a little even, Uncle Larry Anderson

Happy Friday Evening!I just wanted to take a few minutes to update you on how John is doing. I meant to do this last night, but lost track of time. I don’t know who he has talked to and who he hasn’t so I’m just going to send this to everyone I have an email for and then each of you can modify accordingly and send it to others I may have missed if you want to.
We went to the doctor on Tuesday to find out the test results from the ones he had last Friday. He also had chemotherapy and his first dose of radiation since he finished his initial six weeks of it, 15 months ago. John’s doctor said to consider this a little “speed bump.” This was just a time of tweaking his treatment plan to the right combination again. The radiation might do the trick or the doctor said John might have to go back on the high dosage of chemotherapy he had about this time last year. He reacted okay to that chemo regimen he had last year at first, but this as time progressed, the side effects of the chemotherapy compounded in his system. By the end of four months, John was staying in bed for a week after receiving a chemotherapy treatment. I just hope and pray he doesn’t have to do that again.
Dr. Chung also said that the cancer hadn’t spread or anything like that, which was a big relief. John’s lymph nodes on the left side of his neck were enlarged and swollen and he wanted to get that under control. John calls them his “chicken nuggets” and John started noticing them a couple months ago. Soon after he became aware of them, he started getting sharp pain running down his arm. He said the pain wasn’t consistent and it moved around to different areas of his arm. By last week, he said he thought he only had about 50% use of his left arm. Dr. Chung’s assessment of this, was the lymph nodes, be enlarged, were pressing down on nerves running down his left arm and causing the pain. He said John should get relief from that pain with the radiation treatments on these lymph nodes.
How is John feeling now?He has taken four radiation treatments this week. He has the weekend off, then five more this coming Monday-Friday and his last one the following Monday. The radiation doctor scheduled 10 treatments initially. She said it might take a total of 15, but she didn’t want to order that at first … she would make that determination after 10 treatments.
I have actually witnessed John laughing and joking around a little the last couple of days. That is something I hadn’t seen in awhile, so I’m thankful for that. I asked him yesterday if his arm was still hurting as bad. He said, “no” … that he actually had some relief after the very first radiation treatment. I asked him this morning if his “chicken nuggets” had gotten any smaller to the touch. He said maybe a little, but he didn’t think they had very much, from what he could tell mashing around on them at the base of the side of his neck.John actually felt so much better yesterday, that he stayed down in the garage doing his “man things,” until 4:00 AM this morning! Of course, he is paying for it today! He has been sleepy, tired and moving around slowly all day. I hope that tomorrow and Sunday will give him a little break from the radiation and he will feel good again. The weekend here is supposed to be in the low 70’s so it should be a wonderful time to get out and enjoy.
That is about all I can think of right now. Feel free to contact me or John or both to see how he is doing. Don’t ever feel like you are bothering us. If John doesn’t feel like talking on the phone, he’ll call you back when he feels better (as long as he remembers). Email is a wonderful way to get in touch with either of us or just to let John know you are thinking about him.
I hope you have an awesome weekend! Make a point to make a memory with someone you care about this weekend. Many things can pass us by during our lifetime, but memories can never be taken away!
Love,
